cobwebs glisten in sunlight By Tohm Bakelas

exactly 3 weeks since i
drank booze of any kind,
exactly 21 days sober.

when i got home
around 1 am,
i knew it’d be
a night of staring
at darkness.

i drank half a bottle of NyQuil,
and felt the warmness of
it’s possibility coat
the lining of my gut.

when i woke at 10:43am
i couldn’t keep my eyes open.

i was hungover, watching
the minutes pass by
and turn into hours.

at 5pm
my kids
would be
home,
i decided to
sleep until then.
